Storage Tips & Pro Prep Guide

Maximize your space and protect your valuables with our expert guide to self-storage in Oshkosh.

How to Prep Like a Pro

Proper preparation is the key to keeping your items in pristine condition. Since our units feature drive-up access and concrete floors, follow these steps to ensure a smooth move-in:

Pro Tips

Tip 1: Use Pallets

Keep it Elevated: Even on our sturdy concrete floors, we recommend placing your items on wooden pallets or 2x4s. This allows for better airflow underneath your boxes and furniture.

TIP 2: Protect Furniture

Wrap with Care: Use moving blankets or breathable fabric covers for upholstered furniture and mattresses. Avoid wrapping items tightly in plastic for long periods, as items need to "breathe" in non-climate-controlled environments.

TIP 3: Engine Prep

Drain Your Fluids: If you are storing a lawnmower, snowblower, or small engine, ensure the gas tank is drained or treated with a stabilizer before storage to prevent odors and safety hazards.

Maximize Every Square Foot

Getting the most out of your unit helps you save money. Often, a well-packed 10x10 can hold more than a disorganized larger space.

Strategy 1: Vertical Stacking

Go High: Stack your heaviest boxes at the bottom and work your way up. Our units offer excellent ceiling height; don't be afraid to use it! Just ensure your stacks are stable and safe.

Strategy 2: The Aisle Method

Leave a Path: Leave a small aisle down the center of your unit. This allows you to reach items in the back without having to unload the entire space later.

Find Your Perfect Fit

Now that you know how to pack, make sure you have the right space for the job. Our 10×10 units are perfect for a one-bedroom apartment, while our 10×20, 10×25 and 10×30 spaces can handle full households and vehicles with ease.
